Truly Magnificent Grade I listed Elizabethan Manor stands proudly amidst its own private, beautifully landscaped gardens set within a Local Preservation Area. This 400 year old masterpiece hides behind tall stone walls with entry via automatic gates down a sweeping gravel driveway flanked by huge 600-year-old beech trees.

Situated on the south side of the ancient market town of Frome in a small valley of one of the most picturesque and historic areas. Described as one of the finest examples of a 16th-century stone built manor, it boasts virtually all original characteristics: stone gabled roofs, mullioned and leaded light windows, historic fireplaces, decorative plaster ceiling mouldings, oak stripped floors, 15th-century paneling, huge oak beams. Arranged over three floors with 9 bedrooms, 5 reception rooms, 2 kitchens 3 bathrooms some with period slipper baths, bidet, separate showers, 4 x WC and a host of other communal rooms.

A recent sympathetic refit features the latest technology such as digital keyless entry, communal rooms automatically light up on entry, stained glass windows are beautifully back-lit at night. Plenty to do; enjoy cream teas on the elevated gazebo with wonderful views, walk around the estate formal gardens, rockeries, pond, croquet lawn, underground bomb shelter now themed as a 1940s living room. Other pleasant walks lead from the manor past many delightful cottages to the town centre. Top location for Stonehenge, Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury, Bath, Stourhead Gardens, Longleat Safari Park.

Drawing room is open-plan to the lounge, ideal for large social gatherings, with giant Elizabethan thrones and huge chessboard table with giant pieces. Large dining-room with walk-in fireplace, enormous rosewood dining table (its unusual square shape allows all 18 guests to see each other). Ideal for a medieval feast or banquet. Large well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen, Breakfast room, Pantry, Music room with ornamental piano and pull down double bed hidden in paneled wall. Ingenious double bass opens up to reveal cocktail bar - ideal for pre-dinner drinks gatherings. Games room. Below stairs is a secret humorous folly room with doll-size period furniture.

Central galleried oak staircase to west wing: Paneled library with extensive book collection (with entire section for children). All bedrooms are themed with double four-poster beds, window seats, most with wash basin, and some are grand suites with writing desks and dressing tables, modern showers. The old Coach House on the grounds can be booked with Stonnwall Manor (EQR) to sleep a further 8 people.
