Things to do in Maidwell, Northamptonshire
Maidwell is a small village situated on the edge of the Northamptonshire Leicestershire borders, approximately 4 miles from the market town of Market Harborough and 10 miles from Northampton. The A508 runs through the village, the A14 junction 2 is approximately 1 mile north of the village.
The village is very well served by the village pub, The Stags Head, which offers a good selection of food and beers, has a pleasant beer garden to enjoy in the summer and a real fire to toast the toes in the winter.
We are proud of our small but vibrant and friendly church, St. Mary the Virgin, which provides traditional and modern services and which has a newly formed Friends of St. Marys to build community fellowship, arrange events for the benefit of the community and to raise funds for the maintenance and upkeep of the Church.
The village has a vibrant sense of community spirit, with regular social events such as:
Summer Barbeque
Village Cricket Challenge
Harvest Supper
Quiz Night
Christmas Party
Kids Saturday Club
Ladies Club
Weekly Keep Fit Sessions
Weekly Coffee Morning open to all
The 2001 census reflects that the village had 325 inhabitants, who benefit from this prospering village. See the Neighbourhood Profile page for more information on Maidwell.
We have an excellent village primary school, Maidwell Infant School which has just received an outstanding offsted report (Dec 2009). Maidwell Hall independent prep school offers boarding and day prep for boys and girls aged 8-13 (girls accepted 2010). The school is set in beautiful grounds, in which the headmaster generously allows the village to host a cricket match along with other events when able.
The Loder Hall hosts a lot of the village events, and is available for hire at very reasonable rates for private functions, having kitchen and toilet facilities and large gardens to the rear, with limited parking to the front.
We are looking to produce an e-Newsletter, probably four a year, We are looking to develop this website and to include other useful information for villagers and newcomers alike. Visit the official village website www.maidwell.info for further information.
