Cheshire Military Museum

An interesting, innovative and attractive museum in a Grade I Listed Building on the very edge of the Castle in Chester. It is always developing new ideas to interpret the stories of the men of four famous regiments connected with Cheshire.

'The Cheshire Regiment - raised in 1689 on the Roodee. From The Boyne to Basra, the museum invites the visitor to explore over 300 years of history. Look out for the 1917 gift to the Regiment from its Russian Counterpart, American War links and the officer who fought for the Confederacy. The Cheshire Yeomanry - 1797 and still in being today - raised to maintain the Kings Peace in the County. The last horsed regiment in action in World War II.

'The Skins - from a troop raised by Sir Thomas Grosvenor at Chester in 1685 to the 5th Dragoon Guards and the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons - look for Capt Oates of Antarctic fame and Lord Baden Powell in South Africa, founder of Scouting.

'The Carabiniers' - an amalgamation of the 3rd and 6th Dragoon Guards. 'Meet' Surgeon Carlyne of the 6th!

  • 'Eaton Hall OCS' Display on the National Service infantry officers training centre at Chester.

  • Embroidery, medals, uniforms - something for all the family.
