Somerset

Exton, in Exmoor National Park, isn't exactly a town - the whole parish having a total population of 230 and that includes Bridgetown and the outlying farms.

It's listed in the Domesday Book and enjoyed a brief period of prosperity during the late 19th century local mining boom.

The church - part of it recently discovered to be Saxon and therefore with a claim to being one of the oldest on Exmoor, is worth a visit. The School, Inn and Vicarage are now all private houses and have been for many years.

Exton has ancient houses, ancient track-ways, and some would say ancient attitudes but also new ways of living which combine the best of both old traditions and new possibilities.
