Things to do in Petworth, West Sussex
The magnificent Petworth House dominates Petworth; one of Sussex's most important country towns.A centre for the cloth industry in the 16th century it features 'gentleman's houses' winding streets and over 20 antique shops.
Petworth House, the ancestral home of the Percy, Somerset and Wyndham families, contains the National Trust's finest collection of paintings. Petworth House is also famous for the stunning 17th century carvings by Grinling Gibbons. The grounds were designed by Capability Brown and considered to be among his finest work. The house is open to the public from April-October.
The Petworth Cottage Museum is an estate worker's cottage restored and furnished, as it would have been in 1910.
