Things to do in Yatesbury, Wiltshire

Awaiting photographs of Yatesbury

Yatebury is now a small village nestling at the foot of the Marlbrogh Downs, betwen Beckhampton and Calne.

Small as it now is, it had a long history with aviation, starting during world war I, and its association with military aviation ended in 1967.

There remains on the site, some buildings dating back to World War I through to the end of its operational life, where it was returned to basic agricultural land. The graveyard of the little church also shows its millitary history with a small number of war graves.

It is hard to imagine a once thriving and bustling airbase and training centre with well over 3000 personel based there when visiting the site now, but there is also a thriving community on-line who remember the base and share their memories and experiences.

At present there is some development and restoration work going on at the site, and also some small aviation activities.
