Hatfield Forest is a rare surviving example of a medieval hunting forest. It has over 1,000 acres of woodland and pasture, some wonderful 400 year old pollarded trees, two ornamental lakes and an eighteenth century Shell House.

Of great historical and ecological importance, Hatfield Forest is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and National Nature Reserve. It has been owned by the National Trust since 1924.

There are walks and an attractive picnic area beside the Capability Brown designed lake. There is good coarse fishing.

  • Dogs welcome but on leads where cattle and sheep grazing and lake area
